Cell phones, Texting and why are you CALLING ME?

So I just read a post on another blog about cell phones , text, and actual land line phone calls which you can read here.

The blog was all about a person getting a an actual call from a friend he hadn’t heard from in a while. He was shocked that the person decided to actually place a phone call instead of using a more than common text message. The friend stated that he was calling to catch up and just to say hello. The person receiving the call not being a good “Phone person” wondered why his friend didn’t just text him instead of making such an Intimate interpersonal move as wanting to actually speak to this his friend. The entire subject matter of this post really Irks me.

Have we really come that far down the technology pipeline , in that an actual call from a friend that wants to actually speak to you is seen as uncommon, unjustified, or annoying  for wanting to say hello. Now i can understand, if your a guy with a job who spends a majority of your time on phone selling something or speaking to clients 8 out of 10 hours a day , I sympathize with your annoyance in that situation. Anything short of that scenario to me is really sad. My ex-wife is famous for this text only move because it allows her to get everything she wanted to say off her chest regardless of consequence and with no chance of rebuttal from the other party involved (more often that not, me) . Excuse me if when considering an important subject matter like my kids for instance , I prefer speaking to an actual voice rather than tapping little buttons on a little box with light that most of the time i would like to crush to begin with. In this century we are just getting further and further away from any kind of intimacy or learning about how to form interpersonal relationships with people. For the record I have always supported technology, and I’m always the first in my family to help advance everyone else when it comes to computers, online stuff , and basically anything tech related. Most people have preferred to do without land lines in their homes anymore, which makes sense. We used to keep one for emergencies only but have since moved away from that idea.

Look I get it, the days of you not being home and missing a call, having to search for a payphone to use, or making sure your number is not listed for the people you don’t want to call you can’t find you.  I’m not crazy about talking on the phone either , so call me old fashioned but I still prefer speaking to a friend and actually hearing their voice if its someone I haven’t spoken to in a while and wants to catch up. Save the text messages for business like things and use actual voice for personal whenever possible would be my advice to someone growing up in this century! Here’s a newsflash for you, NO ONE WILL remember what you tweeted ,Posted on your facebook page , or Instagramed or texted to someone when your lying on your death bed, or have passed away. They might however remember that conversation they had with you In person or :::GASP:::: on the phone that time when you were supporting them through a difficult time! What do you think???

Asking for a Re-Blog

OK first off, This Chick doesn’t need any help from me and my blog to get popular. Most of her videos have 100,000’s of hits, some of them over a million, and she has a ton of videos of her playing a HUGE range of songs , mostly heavy meta. That said, I think anyone that can truly follow Neil Pearts playing style is a pretty decent drummer, and following Lars Ulrich is not easy either , he never does the same thing twice!

Meytal (Her name) is not only very talented, shes also not bad to look at. I’m sure being beautiful and having a great smile helped when her videos started being posted, it seems lots of people are curious about female drummers that can really play, especially Metal drummers.

I respect this girl not only for her playing style, but her ability to take some you tube videos , market herself and turn it into a business.  Shes selling lessons, sticks, shirts, and is even started recording an album with a band. The band is really good, and can all be heard on her you tube channel. One of them I really like is a song called Breathe!

Her name is Meytal Cohen and she has kicked some serious ass on you tube , all over her drumset, and next the world of heavy metal  and rock music. Don’t take my word for it, Go have a listen yourself. Watching her play is pretty cool, but hearing the original music shes starting to put out is even more exciting. If you’re looking to start your daughter off in the world of drumming, who better to tech her than this very talented and savy woman who has turned her little you tube videos into something great. When she’s famous you can say she was your teacher! …that wouldn’t suck!

The best drummer on YouTube

This dude is serious! Slipknot should at least take a look!

Benjamin Greene's Blog

KRIMH, the internet name of a drumming hero from Vienna, Austria, shows in this video how insanely good he is. This is an attempt to win a job as the new drummer in Slipknot, and frankly, if I were them I would give it to him.

It also shows the extreme flexibility of the drum kit itself. Just listen to how much sound he is able to produce by constantly using all four limbs. This guy is so good, I can’t conceive of ever playing like him. Ever.

Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs

Peter Criss will always remain one of rock’s most recognized and popular drummers. As a founding member of Kiss, Criss donned iconic makeup to represent a character and look of his own creation, and that duly transformed him, not just from mortal human to immortal superstar, but into a bona fide superhero in the eyes of many young Kiss fans. And because like their idols, the Beatles, the four members of Kiss made a point of showcasing each one’s unique musical talents — at least to some degree — on their albums, we felt it fitting to recognize the Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs.

Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs

10 ‘Hooked on Rock ’n’ Roll’
From: ‘Peter Criss’ (1978)
We start our list of Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs with this relative standout from the drummer’s much maligned debut. Though it was released under the familiar Kiss imprimatur, alongside his bandmates’ similarly appointed, color-coded efforts, ‘Peter Criss’ already showed the growing creative differences — his love of classic R&B and romantic ballads and most importantly, a desire for more of the spotlight — that would push him out of Kiss.
9  ‘Getaway’
From: ‘Dressed to Kill’ (1975)
We initially slotted ‘Dynasty’’s ‘Dirty Livin’’ for this spot … but then we came to our senses and swapped in the Ace Frehley-composed, Criss-sung ‘Getaway.’ Not that there’s all that much praise we can lavish on this solid but workmanlike tune from ‘Dressed to Kill’ — other than to say it’s not as helplessly hilarious as ‘Dirty Livin’,’ which featured a dated disco bass line courtesy of Gene Simmons.
8 ‘Mainline’
From: ‘Hotter than Hell’ (1974)
Now here’s a modest, but undeniably lovable Criss-helmed album cut we can categorically endorse, taken from 1974‘s sophomore Kiss opus, ‘Hotter than Hell.’ No, ‘Mainline’ wasn’t smash hit material and rarely reared its cat-faced little head in Kiss’ live shows, but there’s a fetching simplicity to Paul Stanley’s opening riff sequence (clearly inspired by Free) that we simply find impossible to resist. Hear for yourselves…
7   ‘Baby Driver’
From: ‘Rock and Roll Over’ (1976)
Peter penned this number himself with the help of perennial songwriting partner, Stan Penridge, and while it wound up overshadowed by another ‘Rock and Roll Over’ highlight we will get to further on down this list, ‘Baby Driver’ boasts an impassioned vocal that epitomizes Criss’ underrated, soulful style. In fact, you could easily make a case that the Cat was the best singer in Kiss, technically speaking.
6     ‘100,000 Years’ [Live]
From: ‘Alive!’ (1975)
Peter Criss’ skills as a drummer have been subjected to serious (and often unfair) abuse in recent years, but none of that can erase the indelible memory of his rock-solid, workhorse display of percussive prowess on ‘Alive!’’s definitive version of ‘100,000 Years.’ Even if you can hardly recall Criss’ understated contribution to the song’s original studio recording, but on ‘Alive!’ he sounded positively Bonham-like!
5    ‘Hooligan’
From: ‘Love Gun’ (1977)
Another Criss/Penridge collaboration — this one from the excellent ‘Love Gun’ LP — ‘Hooligan’ was essentially cut from the same cloth as ‘Baby Driver,’ but arguably turned out even more infectious, and certainly more amusing, thanks to the hapless high school dropout described as its protagonist. The remaining thee members of Kiss seemed to agree, too, with Gene and Paul throwing themselves into the backing vocals while Ace bolstered the song with one of his magically simple, but perfect, guitar solos.
4   ‘Strange Ways’
From: ‘Hotter than Hell’ (1974)
If you find it a little odd that we’d place this oft-forgotten ‘Hotter than Hell’ closer at No. 4 on our list of Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs, just keep in mind it’s a cult favorite of sorts, and has been frequently covered through the years by everyone from Big Four thrashers Megadeth, to Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy, to Norwegian avant-metal weirdoes Ulver. Acutally, we can’t believe the Melvins haven’t gotten to this one yet.
3 ‘Hard Luck Woman’
From: ‘Rock and Roll Over’ (1976)
Perhaps no song (aside from the one you won’t be surprised to find in the No. 1 spot) has been more closely associated with Peter Criss over the years than this jaunty acoustic folk song composed by Paul Stanley — originally with none other than Rod Stewart in mind! But he wisely kept it for Kiss instead, handing it off for the Catman to sing as the first single from ‘Rock and Roll Over.’ This decision no doubt contributed to taking ‘Hard Luck Woman‘ (later covered by country superstar Garth Brooks) into the U.S. Top 20 and numerous international charts
2  ‘Black Diamond’
From ‘Kiss’ (1974)
You can crow all you want about ‘Rock and Roll All Nite,’ ‘Shout it Out Loud’ and ‘Detroit Rock City,’ but, for our money, larger-than-life Kiss anthems don’t get any bigger or better than the superb ‘Black Diamond.’ And who is it singing lead vocals on there? That’s right, Peter Criss — at least after the song’s composer, Paul, gets done quietly crooning the first verse and then cues Peter into action with a familiar “Hit it!” From that point forward, this cinematic epic about seedy inner city life is brought to life by Criss’ raw and bluesy delivery.
1   ‘Beth’
From: ‘Destroyer’ (1976)
Well, what did you expect? Long after each and every one of us is dead and gone (all of us except for the immortal Gene, of course, who cannot be “unmade”), Kiss’ biggest career hit, ‘Beth,’ will be soaring on sweeping strings across the radio airwaves, web streams, and whatever it is they invent next! Peter Criss’ signature love song may suffer from a little of that overplayed ear-worm syndrome, and it doesn’t even represent the trademark hard rock Kiss sound, sure, but it’s bound to live on as the man’s lasting legacy, and therefore was an extremely worthy choice to crown our list of Top 10 Peter Criss Kiss Songs.
