Music you should Know – The Low End Theory – A Tribe Called Quest

If you never heard this album and you claim to be a Hip hop fan, then this album is an intricate part of Hip Hop Education! This album helped Define Alternative type Hip Hop in the 90’s and gave people a Whole other vibe to Hip Hop. If you weren’t just the hardcore east coast or hardcore west coast type music lover and wanted another option to your hip hop endeavors then this jazz influenced album was that option. This definitely had a new york vibe but with a hippie type feel. Smooth , Laid back, Smoke a bong/blunt  and CHILL with your girl type music! The Source granted it 5 mics when it dropped and it made Tribe called Quest musical Superstars!

EVERY track on the album is HOT!!!!….not one filler on this one! Just put it in your CD player or Ipod and press play! And let the music take you , Listen to the Humor, the Metaphors, The Jazz horns, The tight drums , and the creative genius that is  A TRIBE CALLED QUEST!

The Low End Theory was one of the first records to fuse hip hop with a laid-back jazz atmosphere. Ali Shaheed Muhammad along with Q-Tip and Phife Dawg showcase how rap was done before commercial success influenced many rappers’ creativity.[6] The album’s minimalist sound is “stripped to the essentials: vocals, drums, and bass.”[7] The bass drum and vocals emphasize the downbeat on every track.[8] Engineer Bob Power has been quoted numerous times calling the album, “The Sgt. Pepper’s of hip hop” referring to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band released by The Beatles in 1967.

The Low End Theory helped shape alternative hip hop in the 1990s. It established the musical, cultural, and historical link between hip hop and jazz.[20] The album was considered an instant classic with a 5 mics rating in The Source. Reviewer Reef lauded their “progressive sound” and “streetwise edge”.[15] Writer Oliver Wang called the album “a consummate link between generations”, which took the essence of jazz and hip hop, and “showing they originated from the same black center.”[21] The group’s “mellow innovations” helped jazz rap gain significant exposure from 1992 to 1993.[22] Rolling Stone ranked the album at number 154 in “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”, stating that “people connected the dots between hip-hop and jazz — both were revolutionary forms of black music based in improvisation and flow — but A Tribe Called Quest’s second album drew the entire picture.”[23]

One Song for the rest of your life? on a Deserted Island!

check it out! could you live with one song?

The OurShirtsRock Blog

So listen, I LOVE MUSIC, I have often said if it weren’t for music I would be dead! Seriously, that’s how much music has made a difference in my life! It has gotten me through some very rough times, and been there for the greatest moments also.

Now here is the question, If you were stuck on a deserted island and could only have one artist, or worse yet, One song to be able to play for the rest of your days, could you narrow it down to one artist? or better yet ONE SONG? Think about this, if you had to have one song!!> what would it be>???

Please comment!!!

For me without question it (I have thought about this very much) would be Luther Vandross’s – Superstar /Until you come back to me.

For me without question it (I have thought about this very much) would be Luther Vandross’s – Superstar /Until you come back to me.

The reason is simple, for me it takes me through a range of emotions, its beautiful and is about love and his voice is just so damn smooth. I have seen Luther Vandross do this song live and in person, I have seen him several times, and each time was unbelievable! I have been to many shows from hip hop to the Whispers, to Bobby Brown , to Ozzy and Metallica and Guns N Roses in their prime. By far.. Luther’s shows were the best I have ever been to! He sounded as silky smooth in person as he does on the CD’s you play in your home and car!……The Guns N Roses Show with Metallica in Orlando Florida stadium show was a close second to Luther. R&B music , is the music I grew up on, I guess that’s why I choose this as opposed to some great Rock Song !

So What Song Would you bring with you if you were stranded on a deserted island forever?….If not the song, Which artist?

I know its so hard to narrow down if you’re a big music fan!

New Topics on Blog – Music and Movies you Should know

So I’m starting 2 new topics on my site that will appear quite regularly , and basically whenever the mood strikes me. As many of you may or may not know, Music is a HUGE part of my life. I have owned and operated several recording studios in my home since the age of 17 and have been around music and music production ever since can remember .

For many years  I had a production company and recorded all kinds of music with dreams of doing this professionally, but with a marriage, full time job, 2 children and responsibilities to take care of , chasing the dream of “getting on” in the music industry is a 24 hour 7 day a week dedication that I had to eventually put down. In 2006 I gave this up. Someday soon I will again have a home studio and will record and make music for my own entertainment.

So, I’m starting these 2 topics on my site, Music you should Know and Movies you should see. I love movies as much as music. Since the age of 4 I’ve been going to the movies almost every weekend in my childhood with my grandmother! I don’t do this anymore , and have since moved on to home theater and Blu ray with my own kids. That said there are not many movies out there that I haven’t seen.

I don’t like horror much, so if you love horror movies you won’t find too many reviews of those type movies here. As far as music goes I will be covering a vast array of different types. From Rock n roll to 70’s RnB, to current and past Hip hop and heavy metal!

So without any further explanation, The first Artist I picked  for my ” Music You should know” is Pat Benatar!

If you don’t know who she is, check out here music here

“you better Run” IS just a sample of the MANY hits PAT Benatar had during the 80’s. She was probably best known for the hit song “Hit me with your best shot”

She paved the way for Artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce, These ladies of music all had opportunities because Pat Benatar was an AWESOME  ROCK N ROLL / Rock Pop independent woman who kicked ass! Not only did her music Kick some ass but she was pretty damn hot too! and She still looks great!

Patricia Mae Andrzejewski (born January 10, 1953), known professionally as Pat Benatar, is an American singer and four-time Grammy Award winner. She is a mezzo-soprano. During the 1980s, Benatar had two RIAA-certified Multi-Platinum albums, five RIAA-certified Platinum albums, three RIAA-certified Gold albums and 14 Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits, “Hit Me with Your Best Shot”, “Love Is a Battlefield”, “We Belong” and “Invincible”. [1] Benatar was one of the most heavily played artists in the early days of MTV. She was the first woman to play on MTV performing, “You Better Run”.
